Why Did Radio Rentals Close Their Stores?
Radio Rentals have been renting household items since their first store opened in Sydney in 1937. That's why it was such a shock to the industry when they announced all Radio Rentals stores were closing in April 2020. The timing would indicate Coronavirus was a significant contributor to the decision.
The point of this article is to assure our thousands of
Mr Rental customers across Australia that nothing is changing for Mr Rental. Our stores will be remaining open for the long term even if Coronavirus / COVID-19 outbreaks temporarily restrict some stores opening hours from time to time.

We want to be clear. The Mr Rental business is not related to Radio Rentals in any way, and our stores are open for business as per usual. Is Radio Rentals Closing Down?
The questions are being asked out there: “does radio rentals still exist?”, “is radio rentals still open?” and “when is radio rentals closing down?”.
Their website is up and running and according to their frequently asked questions page Radio Rentals is “continuing to operate with a new digital business model”. So yes Radio Rentals does still exist. Radio Rentals is still open but only online. Radio Rentals have already shut their stores back in April 2020.
Why Did Radio Rentals Close Their Stores?
Radio Rentals parent companies Chair Warren McLeland shed more light on the decision during the Annual General Meetings address to shareholders when he stated “Financial Year 2020 proved to be immensely challenging.”.
He goes on to say “This has forced us to be brutal.”, and that “we have implemented a reduction in staff of 300 employees, closed all Radio Rental Stores across Australia and reset the group’s financial position in light of the dramatic changes which continue in very difficult economic conditions created by the coronavirus.”
