LAUNCESTON families will be able to more affordably and easily upgrade their furnishings, technology and appliances with the opening of the second Mr Rental store in Tasmania.
Glenn and Sandy Travers, who already operate a Mr Rental store in Moonah, said they identified a great need for the business in the area.
“The success of the first store has been amazing so we quickly realised people were crying out for this type of concept here in Launceston,” Sandy said.
“It’s natural for people to want the latest technology or white goods but it is not always affordable and the trap is many people go into unnecessary debt to provide their families with the best,” she said. “Mr Rental provides affordable solutions on white goods, furniture, fitness equipment and technology providing people with a safe cost controlled option.”
The Launceston store marks the 69th store for the franchise group, nationally and in New Zealand.
Sandy and Glenn, conscious of ensuring the store was run by locals hired Nathan Blair and Mark Shaw to run their store.
“We live in Hobart and while we commute every week to meet locals and visit the store we knew it would be important to ensure the Launceston community was being serviced by people they knew and Nathan and Mark area excellent managers.
“We also built the shop with the help of local tradesmen and buy all of our office stationery and consumables from local businesses in the area, so our commitment to Launceston is very strong,” she said.
Previously owning and operating a pharmacy together, Glenn and Sandy have been working together since 2000. Selling the pharmacy in 2008 Sandy said they took nine months off before deciding to purchase their first Mr Rental store.
“Obviously it is a big change from working in a pharmacy however we discovered the values, systems and the culture the business has are very similar to our own,” she said.
“We are also content knowing that we are essentially providing a much needed service in the community that is helping families get what they need wisely.
“Feedback from the community has already been significant. Another of the key benefits of the Mr Rental concept is that customers can upgrade their rentals at any time and if people do want to rent something it’s easy to organise a manageable monthly payment plan.”
Glenn oversees operations and management and has been working full time in Mr Rental since 2009.Sandy manages the HR operations and marketing and retired from her pharmacy work at the beginning of 2010 to work full time in the business also.
The Launceston Mr Rental store is located at 2/34 McKenzie st in Mowbray.
