This recession-proof recurring revenue franchise offers an excellent work/life balance, easy to follow proven methodology, tools, support and systems.
With so many franchising opportunities available, Mr Rental is one that truly provides all the ingredients to result in both happy and successful franchisees.
Mr Rental’s franchisees are so impressed with the system they bought into that they eagerly participate in independent franchisee satisfaction reviews, 10 THOUSAND FEET, which surveys over 2,000 franchisees from 65 systems across Australia bi-annually. Once again, Mr Rental has been voted amongst the Top 10 franchise businesses in Australia (ranked eighth).
The key criteria on which franchisors were judged in this survey included the intention of franchisees to renew their agreement beyond the current term, willingness to recommend a franchise to friends and colleagues, level of financial and social rewards franchisees feel they receive, and whether franchisees are satisfied with the lifestyle their franchise affords them, among other key criteria.
Effectively, Mr Rental is a franchise system that has its roots firmly planted in family values, a genuine passion to achieve and give back to the community that supports the local stores.
Mr Rental was founded by Glen and Kerrianne Hickman in 1991, on Bribie Island, just an hour north of Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast, in Queensland.
It was here that they started their first business venture, opening a local video library. They started renting appliances such as VCRs and TVs from their store and soon realised they were making more from appliance rentals than video rentals. They sold the video store and opened Mr Rental.
For ten years, this enterprising husband and wife team built their business in their local community, developing and optimising their Mr Rental systems. In 2001 they took the bold move to start franchising, with a vision for Mr Rental to become ‘the world’s first choice in home appliance renting’.
Within two years they had over 30 stores throughout Australia and New Zealand, growing to over 60 stores today!
Importantly, Mr Rental offers a strong family culture and lifestyle balance. Franchisees can expect to work only five days a week within standard business hours, allowing them to spend quality time with their family, hobbies and other pursuits.
Mr Rental and their franchisees have won a number of reputable franchise industry awards including the 2008 Franchise Council of Australia’s Emerging Franchise System of the Year and are finalists in multiple categories of this year’s FCA awards.
Indeed, the service offered by Mr Rental franchises across Australia has grown in demand among local families, due to a trend of renting rather than buying white goods and appliances, particularly in the current economy.
“Renting is an attractive option for families looking to maximise their cashflow by not having to purchase big ticket items outright, while ensuring they’re not denying their family’s basic needs," says Mr Rental General Manager, Alan Payne.
“Our franchisees supply fridges, TVs, washers, dryers, computers, sound systems, game consoles and even furniture within 24 hours and look after any repairs or issues with any of the appliances."
As well as being a service that is constantly in demand, Mr Rental is a strongly positioned brand due to highly targeted national print and television marketing, as well as the provision of toolkits and manuals for all stores to use for their local marketing.
However, a large part of the attraction to the Mr Rental brand is the unique culture among the organisation and the stores.
A culture of excellence and constant improvement is what Mr Rental calls ‘Above the Line’. The words sitting above the line are ‘Ownership – Accountability – Responsibility’. The words below the line are ‘Blame – Excuse – Denial’.
This is coupled with the Mr Rental’s 12 Points of Culture, which includes a detailed paragraph under 12 titles: commitment; ownership; integrity; excellence; communication; success; education; team work; balance; fun; systems; and consistency. Franchisees find incredible success and fulfilment by exercising these sets of values in both their personal and professional lives.
All these elements together, including the willingness to lead by example and the genuine passion of franchisees within the network, set the Mr Rental franchise far apart from other franchise businesses.
Testimonial
“Mr Rental appealed to us because of the recurring revenue and lifestyle it offered. We work 5 days a week on our business which gives us time to spend with the kids on the weekend. We have generated strong growth in our two stores over the past 2 years and now have a solid asset base and a strong team in place allowing us to work on the business rather than in it"
