The Mr Rental network presented a cheque for $55,400.25 to the Cancer Council at their annual Conference held over the weekend in Melbourne, Australia.
According to General Manager, Alan Payne, the funds were raised over the last 18 months for the Cancer Council through conferences, in-store activities and training.
“Mr Rental stores also take part in Cancer Council events, such as Daffodil Day, Biggest Morning Tea and Relay for Life. The funds raised during these events are in addition to the total sum presented on the day as the money raised is sent directly to the Cancer Council," Mr Payne said.
A cheque for $20,311.40 representing funds raised by the New Zealand contingent of Mr Rental stores will also be presented to the Cancer Society next month. The Cancer Society is a not for profit organisation funded by caring New Zealanders that works to improve community well-being by reducing the incidence and impact of cancer.
“The Mr Rental network is pleased to be able to assist the Cancer Council to raise money that will fund the cancer control initiatives, patient support and education services of the Cancer Council's member organisations,"’ Mr Payne said
Jane Hutchinson, National Corporate Partnerships Manager, from the Cancer Council said the support from the Mr Rental network has been invaluable.
“The money raised will go toward the Cancer Counseling hotlines and services, Cancer Connect which is a one on one support program, as well as new cancer research programs and initiatives," says Ms Hutchinson.
The Mr Rental network of 62 stores has chosen the Cancer Council as its charity of choice, because the organisation finds it important to give something back to the community and many franchisees within the network have either been affected with cancer or had close friends or family diagnosed with some form of cancer.
“I am happy that the network is so supportive and excited about contributing to the community, and wholeheartedly support our charity of choice, the Cancer Council." said Mr Payne.
As Australia's peak national non-government cancer control organisation, Cancer Council Australia advises the Australian Government and other bodies on practices and policies to help prevent, detect and treat cancer, while minimising the threat of cancer to Australians, through successful prevention, best treatment and support.
